Chris Paul signs with the Clippers: How will this affect Fantasy Basketball?

Chris Paul seems to be making his retirement tour back in Los Angeles, where he spent many of his prime playing years leading the Clippers to the playoffs. Now though, he is well past his prime and he just wants to spend his last season with the fans he spent six seasons with. In today's article, we will be breaking down last season for Paul as well as how his retirement tour will go and how being on the Clippers will affect Fantasy Basketball this upcoming year. So, let's get right into it and have some fun today.
Chris Paul averaged 8.8 points, 3.6 rebounds and 7.4 assists last season with the Spurs, but most of those assists were to the Spurs center Victor Wenbanyama, who obviously won't be on the Clippers this season. In fact, he averaged 8.0 assists with Wenbanyama playing to just 6.6 whenever he wasn't playing. It will be interesting to see what he does this year without a generational big man playing alongside him. Paul has always been an extremely efficient scorer, and he showed that last season by posting shooting splits of 38/52/92 from inside the arc, three pointers, and from the foul line. Chris Paul has never been a player that needs to score to make an impact, but that certainly doesn't mean that he is incapable of scoring.
This year, CP3 will most likely come in and be the backup point guard on the oldest team in the NBA. In fact, the Clippers are coming up on an unprecedented age for the starting lineup. The oldest starting lineup of all time was the 2001 Utah Jazz, which included a 38 year old John Stockton and a 37 year old Karl Malone, and their average age was 35.6 years old. The projected starting lineup (plus Chris Paul) for the Clippers next season has an average age of 34.2 years old. This could be a good thing for the Clippers, as they have players with tons of playoff experience and their star player, Kawhi Leonard, being a Finals MVP himself.
So what does this mean for Chris Paul next season? Well for starters, Paul will be demoted into the sixth man position instead of the starting job that he had for the Spurs last season. He doesn't have Victor Wenbanyama to throw the ball too, but he may have one of the next best things with this stacked offensive scheme that the Clippers have added this offseason. Adding Bradley Beal means another catch and shoot guard for Paul to assist too. Also, he can dump it down to Ivica Zubac, or can also kick it to Harden, Leonard, or Batum for an open shot. Instead of the projected decrease in statistics, Paul very well might average more assists and points than he did last season. Chris Paul would be a very good snag in the later rounds this season for your fantasy team and can be a quality guard for your championship team.
