Our Reactions to The Open Championship

07/20/2025

Scottie Scheffler may have been the least surprising winner at The Open Championship, thats for sure. I can't say that it wasn't exciting to see Scottie Scheffler get that much closer to achieving golfing immortality in the Grand Slam. All he needs now is that U.S. Open, and he will get his shot next year at Shinnecock Hills in New York. In today's article we will be breaking down just how impressive Scheffler's win was, as well as reviewing our sleeper picks for this weekend. So, let's get right into it and have some fun on this beautiful Sunday!

Scottie Scheffler finished his final round today at -3, and he finished -17 for the entire week. He beat out Harris English by four strokes, and it was never really a competition once Scottie got going. He started off strong with an impressive approach shot on the first hole, which he left to about a foot for an easy birdie. Scheffler continued his dominant stretch with birdies on holes 4 & 5, before making a costly error on Hole 8, where he where he struggled to escape a fairway bunker and ended up making double bogey. It was there that it looked like the field may have had a shot to catch him, but with a quick birdie on Hole 9, that thought quickly went away. Scheffler turned on cruise control on the back nine, with a birdie on Hole 12 and finishing the rest of the round with all pars. It looked effortless for him as he breezed through one of the toughest courses in the world and destroying the competition.

This was the first time in Scottie Scheffler's major career that he finished with all four rounds under 70, and it just shows how much better he is getting. For his scoring, he had one eagle, 20 birdies, 47 pars, just three bogeys and one double bogey. Scheffler led the field in strokes gained putting and on the iron play, which proves how much better he is than every other golfer with his irons. Being an average putter and leading the field in putts is just a testament to the iron play, which he excels at. He is 100% the best golfer right now at the approach shot, but he may be up there all time at that type of shot.

Now looking back at our predictions for the week. We predicted Sepp Straka, Justin Rose, and Robert MacIntyre to all finish at least top 20, and we went 2/3 with those predictions. Sepp Straka finished T52, so that was our big miss of the week. Justin Rose played right into our prediction, as he finished -7 for T16 on the week and shot a two-under 69 today. The big hit for us was Robert MacIntyre, as he finished -10, good for T7. He shot a 67 today and was a couple of putts going his way from being second or third this week. We will be posting more predictions for the upcoming playoffs, plus the Ryder Cup at the end of September.
