Sleeper Picks for The Open Championship

07/16/2025

The last major in golf is here, and with that comes our sleeper picks for The Open Championship. You won't be seeing any Scottie Scheffler's or Rory McIlroy's on this list, but golfers that are lower down on the betting odds that we think can make a real case to win this week at Royal Portrush. The Open really tests golfers will and discipline, something that all three of these golfers have and will show this weekend. So without further ado, let's get into it and have some fun!

Sepp Straka (+5000)

Sepp Straka comes in at +5000 odds, something that we can't quite understand. He has two wins this season at the Truist Championship and The American Express, and he just finished seventh in the Genesis Scottish Open just last week. Now, Straka hasn't done well at the previous three majors, missing the cut in all three of them, but now back in his home continent, whose to say he doesn't make another top ten at the least? We believe that Straka is the riskiest pick out of the three golfers we will name, but he certainly has the upside to finish in the top five.

Robert MacIntyre (+4000)

Robert MacIntyre is another European that we think has a shot to actually go out and win this thing. He hasn't missed a cut since The Masters back in April, and he has been on a roll ever since. His best performance was probably last month at Oakmont, where he finished solo second at the U.S. Open. MacIntyre has shown he can perform at the big stage, now it's just a matter of time until he wins a major, which I believe he can this weekend.

Justin Rose (+7500)

Are you noticing a certain theme with these golfers we are selecting? If you haven't noticed, they are all European. The Europeans have played courses like Royal Portrush their entire lives, and have certainly dealt with conditions like the ones they will face this weekend. Justin Rose has the lowest odds on this list with +7500 odds to win the tournament, but we think he has as good of a chance as anyone to at least finish in the top fifteen, or maybe top ten. Rose finished second to Rory McIlroy in that insane playoff at the Masters earlier this year, plus he finished sixth last week in Scotland. Don't be surprised if Rose puts up another performance like he did at Augusta, except now maybe he'll go out and win the whole thing.
