Who should you draft in the first round? Picks 1-6

07/08/2025

This article is the first of its kind in the strictly fantasy universe. We have never broken down every pick of the first round and told you who to pick. But that is precisely what we are doing in this article. This is the first part of a two article series that we are doing, and if these articles get enough traction we may even break down the second and third rounds for you as well. So let's not waste any more of your time and get right into it.

1.01- Ja'Marr Chase (WR)

We aren't going to break down this one a whole lot, mainly because we already did in a prior article that you can find right here. {Who should be the number one pick in dynasty leagues?} But, the main reason that Ja'Marr Chase should be the first overall pick in every fantasy draft is because of a) his dominance from last season and earning the receiving Triple Crown, and b) Joe Burrow will once again, be throwing the ball to Chase nearly every time. Chase is so dominant when getting the ball behind or right at the line of scrimmage in wide receiver screens, so watch out for the Bengals to run a ton of those this season.

1.02- Saquon Barkley (RB)

Even though Ja'Marr Chase won the Triple Crown last season, Barkley still won the Offensive Player of the Year award, a testament to how insane he played last season. He made his way into running back immortality when he finished the season with 2005 rushing yards, something that only eight running backs have done. The only concern with Saquon is that he had a huge workload last season which included the Super Bowl run, and many people are worried about him getting injured this season with his injury history. Nevertheless, I still think that Saquon Barkley is a great pick at the second pick.

1.03- Justin Jefferson (WR)

Justin Jefferson has shown every single year that he has been in the league that he is a top three receiver, and last year was no different. Even with mediocre quarterback play year in and year out, Jefferson has simply dominated the game. Last season he finished as the WR2 right behind Ja'Marr Chase, and caught 103 passes for 1533 yards and ten touchdowns to go alongside it. I feel that Jefferson is the safest pick of the first round, and would be a great snag at third overall.

1.04- Jahmyr Gibbs (RB)

Jahmyr Gibbs doesn't have a lot of things going for him this season. His offensive coordinator left to join the division rival and he once again has to share reps with David Montgomery. But with all that, we still believe that he is going to improve from last season. Once Montgomery got hurt and Gibbs took all of the reps, he started to shine. Gibbs has improved every season that he has been in the NFL, and with him still only being 23 years old, he still has room to grow.

1.05- Bijan Robinson (RB)

A ton of people are extremely high on Bijan Robinson, with him even going as high as first overall in some mock drafts. While we still like Bijan for this upcoming season, we just don't see how he could be going that high. He did peak at the end of last season and after his Week 12 Bye, as he scored 18+ PPR points in all but one game in that time span. With the Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. having a lack of experience at the starting position, expect Bijan to get fed the ball a ton this season, especially in the earlier weeks.

1.06- Malik Nabers (WR)

I will admit, I am higher on Malik Nabers than a lot of other experts are. But when I see this 21 year old receiver for the Giants, I think, "What's not to like?" Nabers really can do it all on the football field and showed that last season, with 1204 receiving yards in just 15 games played. Now Nabers did get force fed the ball at some times as he finished second in the NFL in targets, but who's to say that doesn't happen again this season? The Giants haven't made any huge moves at the receiver position, and they have upgraded at quarterback, even if we don't know who the starter will be yet. It is pretty easy to say either Russell Wilson, Jaxson Dart or Jameis Winston will be better than Daniel Jones or Drew Lock.
